Outdoor Studio

I recently started working on a piece that will be part of a year long outdoor exhibition called SculptEVV in Evansville, IN (remember that little maquette from a while back?). I have had to work outside to accommodate the scale of the piece which has been such a treat with the absolutely lovely weather we have been having.

I have been notching out my beams so that they will make a sturdier structure when put together.
And more images to come! Just wait till you see all the shapes I cut out last week!

Cradled

from jewel wad to something like art...

Arielle and I recently had the opportunity to work on collaborative sculpture together. It was a piece that brought both of our skill sets together and turned out to test our will and stretch our brains.
The piece is called Cradled. It will be part of a group exhibition of collaborative work titled Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been? which will be held at the MECA Library in Portland, Maine for the month of June.

The concept for the exhibition was the brain child of Adam Manley, Assistant Professor in the Furniture Design and Woodworking department at Maine College of Art. The exhibition asked artists at different stages of their careers to work collaboratively to make a piece that addressed the show's theme title.

Arielle and I seized the opportunity to work together. We each took responsibility for making specific parts on our own (far, far away from one another), and then worked together to make the rest. Despite all the obstacles we encountered and tight schedule (we had a three day window), we had a great time and laughed our little hearts out.
