Enameling Class

I will be teaching a 9 week enameling course on Thursday evenings starting next week at Brooklyn Metal Works. If you ever felt enamored with this ancient art form and wanted to learn more, then this class is or you!

The course will cover the basics of adding color to metal, and go over such techniques as painting with enamels and working on a three dimensional form. You will leave the class with a few finished pieces and the knowledge to continue working on your own.

Check out the Brooklyn Metal Works website for more information:

website update and other news

I finally updated my website with new work from this past spring, summer, and fall.

Take a looksie! www.ameliatoelke.com

In other news, I will be participating in a group exhibition this spring and showing alongside five great artists--Boris Bally, Cal Lane, Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, Meghan Price, Jonathan Wahl, and Zeke Moores.

Curated by Melanie Egan and Paul McClure, Re:Position "brings together six artists who mine the past and present to create works that in various ways comment on consumerism, social mores, and the dialogue between the functional, decorative and art object." The exhibition will be on view at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto.

I will also be doing a short presentation of my work in the emerging artist Rapid Fire Presentation at this years Society of North American Goldsmiths Conference.

And hopefully there will be more to come in 2013!

what, wear, work

The opening reception of "what, wear" seems like a distant memory...

Below are some images of the install and three finished pieces. They are all made of cast resin, plastic chain, and faux gold leaf. There was a bit of a learning curve and some time constraints but all in all I am excited about the possibilities of working with new materials and processes.

The show will be up until December 7th.

And, and, there will be a wee encore at the holiday/open studio event at Spark Workshop (where Arielle and I share a space), 33 34th Street, Brooklyn, NY on December 8th. Come, come!

what, wear

My exhibition partner in crime, Andrea Miller, and I have been overdue for a show together. But, we wait no more...

...our upcoming exhibition "what, wear" at Brooklyn Metal Works, opens in less than two weeks!

The opening reception will be held November 10th, from 7-9pm. The exhibition will remain up until the end of the month. Brooklyn Metal Works is located at 640 Dean Street, Brooklyn, New York.

I am working on three new pieces for the exhibition. I am experimenting with different techniques and materials than I am used to, making rubber molds and casting in resin. Here are two process images to give you a little sneak preview.
